The “Peer Community in” (PCI) is a non-profit scientific organization that aims to create specific communities of researchers reviewing and recommending, for free, unpublished #preprints in their field (i.e. unpublished articles deposited on open online archives like arXiv and bioRxiv). To a lesser extent, they may also recommend articles already published in journals.

So happy to see ppl r making new Naskh fonts. Have always been jealous of how many great fonts are available for Western languages but hardly any in my native language.

translator gripes

That is, thanks to that link, I became aware of a whole industry that serves to medicalize the damage that life under late-stage capitalism does to people working in it.
Ever since, I've been extremely wary of the concept of burnout. It is a thing, but it's not solvable by a few months of healing and then returning to the same situation as before. My co-worker who is leaving has the right idea: get out of the burnout-generating situation alltogether.

There is now a Mastodon instance for publishing scientists: FediScience.

Everyone is welcome from PhD student to professor, as well as researchers from outside of academia. You are welcome to stay afterwards, but it is also easy to change to another server.

There will be a lot of science talk on this server, but there is no need to only talk science

Boosts are appreciated to let others know about this new instance.

Is there anyone on here who would recognize nahuatl if they saw it written out? @popstar? I took a picture of an interesting graffiti and it was partly in Spanish, partly in what I am assuming is an indigenous language that I don't recognize, and I'm trying to narrow it down.

European universities are building up networks to teach and develop the Mari and Mansi languages.

Guess who's not invited? Universities from the speaker regions, where actual L1 speakers work and live 🙄

Nah, of course some Germans, Austrians and Swedes know better how to teach Mari 🤡

a call for abolitionist short stories

This probably already made the rounds, but just in case! Here's a call for submissions for science fiction short stories that deal with a future without police: fictigristle.wordpress.com/202

The call, imo, is kinda vague and will likely attract lots of shitty libs' interpretations of defunded and benevolent police. If anyone on here is writing SF and is interested in abolition, this is a great opportunity to get your radical work out there! They pay pro rates.

Hey fedizens! What's your favorite ereader app for Android?

So far I've tried KOReader, and I guess I can live with it, although it doesn't seem to remember my settings and such, and also doesn't feel too intuitive to use for me.

So I'd like to hear other experiences and opinions before installing a bunch of other apps just to delete them.

My friend linked to this free course.

I haven't enrolled (yet), because of so many other languages, so I can't say anything about its quality. But have a look!

if you've written some story and marginalized voices are critiquing it, you should be interested in what they have to say and listen/signal boost instead of getting defensive.

everyone has internalized shit and if people want to point out how it's coded in your work, that can help you unlearn it. this discussion is valuable to you
